Feeling Lucky Punk

So as Dirty Harry once put it "you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?" Now Ive been thinking what is luck? It doesn't really exist does it? It's just a feeling like happiness or depression and should therefore be disregarded as a means of making decisions. I know from personal experience that gut reactions without logically thinking through the problem end in failure 9 time out of 10 so should we really try and get away from Dirty Harry just because of a gut reaction?
